Weekly Update 1/18/17

January 19, 2017

Greetings Community,

Creating a new offering often involves a lot of experimenting; testing new formats, times, and marketing. I coach many of our event leaders on how to do this, and I do it myself. For my next iteration on the Business Coaching Circle I’ve decided to choose a different topic and format ahead of time to keep it interesting and so people know what to expect. This coming week it will be Support Group for the Over-Worked. Each person will get some attention on their struggle with having a lot on their plate and we’ll discuss strategies for coping. The next one will be Regenerative Enterprise with discussion on creating social justice and doing ecological restoration through profitable business models. The one after that I’d like to give one person attention on a professional challenge, but I’d like to know who it will be and a short description of their challenge to share. Let me know if you’re interested!

Mind-Body Gut Health Talk:

A Functional Medicine and Mindfulness-based Approach to Digestive Health

“All disease begins in the gut” ~Hippocrates, father of medicine

Hippocrates stated that disease begins in the gut more than 2,000 years ago. Recent research about the gut microbiome, leaky gut, and connections between the gut and other body systems reveal that there may indeed be a link to the gut with most all chronic illnesses.

Why is gut health so critical?

• 10-15% of people world-wide suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

• 70-80% of our immune cells reside in the gut

• Auto-immune disorders have been linked with leaky gut

• 80-100 auto-immune diseases have been identified and there will likely be 40+ more identified as research progresses

• Changes in the gut microbiota have been linked to obesity

We will be gathering for a talk about gut health. Participants will learn about functional lab testing for gut issues, connected systems that can be affected, and how to identify and resolve root causes behind digestive and gut-connected issues naturally. We will also speak to how stress impacts the gut, and explore digestion as a mind-body process.

Connections between the gut and other body system:

• Gut-brain axis

• Gut-skin connection

• Gut-hormone link

• Gut-immune relationship

The presentation will be given by Dr. Miles Nichols, doctor of acupuncture and oriental medicine, and expert in functional medicine and mindfulness. Dr. Miles is an author, national speaker, and trains other doctors in functional medicine and mindfulness.

Dr. Miles is focused on helping people reverse chronic illness and to establish robust health, happiness regardless of circumstances, and cultivate a sense of inspired purpose.

Dr. Miles uses advanced diagnostic lab testing, nutrition, lifestyle, supplements, and mindfulness practices to help identify and correct root causes of imbalance, and to predict and prevent future problems naturally.
